11"x17" poster for the SuspectS Motor Club Mt. Clemens Hill Climb. Going for a vintage and retro feel of the old hill climb era.
Many have tried, but few have conquered the harrowing task of climbing Mt Clemens with a vehicle. Henry Ford, Louis Chevrolet, and Barney Oldfield have all tried and failed. It wasn’t until 1929 that Pinky Brassiere had successfully climbed to the top of Mt Clemens in a V16 Cadillac that she “borrowed”, on a whim, from Ray Bernstein of Detroit’s Purple Gang. It was assumed, but never validated, that she made it to the top in 13 minutes and 12 seconds. Since then, others have tried to beat that time, but nothing has ever been official. This is what we plan to change for 2018. SuspectS Motor Club is hosting the first ever Mt Clemens Hill Climb!
Understandably, Mt Clemens has since been flattened and became a K-mart in the 1960s. Once located at the corner of Cass and Groesbeck Hwy, it rose into the clouds and could be seen from as far away as New Baltimore. It’s because of this that we cannot truly have a hill climb event, but we still want to invite you all for another ridiculous pop-up car show that we’ve lovingly called the Mt Clemens Hill Climb.
Rain or shine, bring your ride to Mangan’s Irish Hut and join us for a good time of cars, food, and a little bit of ribbing about how fast your ride could make it to the top of Mt Clemens.
There is no charge for the event. It’s totally free to come by. Plan on patronizing Mangan’s for a burger and a drink.
